Our Story

Born from Frustration, Built with Purpose

Eighteen years ago, Dr. John Kacher completed his pathology residency and stepped into a reality that frustrated him: the laboratory information systems available at the time were expensive, rigid, and lacked the features that modern pathology demanded.

He wanted color histology images embedded directly in reports. He wanted referring physicians to be able to download their results digitally. He wanted end-to-end digital workflows that eliminated paperwork. And he wanted intelligent coding built into the sign-out process. None of these features existed in any LIS on the market.

So he built his own.

Using FileMaker Pro, Dr. Kacher created a laboratory information system tailored to the way pathologists actually work. He deployed it in his private practice oral pathology laboratory and refined it every day for nearly two decades — adding features, streamlining workflows, and solving real problems as they arose at the bench.

With the advent of modern AI-assisted development, Dr. Kacher saw an opportunity to transform his battle-tested system into something far more powerful. He teamed up with his brother Michael, an experienced software developer, to rebuild The Pathology Solution from the ground up.

Together, they re-engineered every aspect of the original platform into an enterprise-grade web application — preserving the 18 years of workflow knowledge while adding entirely new capabilities. OCR now extracts handwritten and typed data from requisitions. QR codes tie every specimen, form, and image into a single trackable record. Live dashboards give pathologists and billing staff real-time visibility into the data that matters most.

The result is a modern LIS built on decades of firsthand pathology experience — not by a software company guessing at what labs need, but by a pathologist who has lived it.
